Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award

James Butler ’02 is an elementary school teacher in Austin, Texas, who created Mindful Classrooms., as an innovative program for teachers that incorporates stretching and breathing into their daily routines. Thanks to these exercises, Butler's Pre-K students have learned to be more mindful in the classroom, leading to more self awareness in moments of stress. In 2014, he was named Austin Independent School Teacher of the Year. Butler earned his master's degree from Grand Canyon University and, in 2009, volunteered as a high school teacher in the Republic of Namibia, Africa. 

The Young Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes Manchester University alumni, age 31-40, who:

        *demonstrate outstanding leadership in their careers,
        *contribute to the betterment of their community and its citizens, and
        *retain a strong alliance with the University.
